DALE CITY, Va. — The newest Metropolitan Board Chair of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington came to Prince William County today to discuss the importance of community news with children.

Debbi Jarvis, a former news reporter and anchor at NBC4 in Washington, accepted the role as Board Chair in July and will oversee the Clubs in an effort to help children build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults.

MANASSAS, Va. — On Monday, the Manassas City Council took the usual weekly meeting on the road to Baldwin Elementary School to address citizens concerns.

About 40 area residents turned out to listen to the state of the school system, town renovations and other council business. Representatives from several town offices attended the meeting and answered questions along with the City Councilmen.

QUANTICO, Va. — The Town of Quantico will hold a party on Labor Day weekend.

The “Salute to Our Troops” fireworks show will be a free event with music and food. It’ll be a chance for the town to say thank you to U.S. service members for their service to the nation.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Stafford County turns 350 next year, but tonight, a special booth that aims to commemorate the anniversary will be featured at tonight’s National Night Out celebration in North Stafford.

The annual night out event will be held at Stafford Marketplace , starting at 6:00 pm , the booth will feature games, prizes, and information on all of the planned events in 2014 that will celebrate the county’s birthday.

TRIANGLE, Va. – On Saturday, August 17, 2013, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Triangle, Va., will present a free screening of Not My Life, the internationally acclaimed documentary film that depicts the horrifying and dangerous practices of human trafficking and modern slavery on a global, national, and local scale. The film is by Robert Bilheimer, and narrated by Glenn Close, both Academy Award nominees. The showing will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the parish’s Dining Hall.

In addition to the screening, representatives from Polaris Project and ACTS SAVAS will be in attendance. Polaris Project is a leader in the global fight against human trafficking – and the organization that operates the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline 1-888-373-7888. ACTS SAVAS is the only sexual assault crisis center serving Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.
