Mom on the Run

I’m home, finally, after a long and busy day at work. I walk in the front door, pass through the hall, and enter the kitchen. On my right, at the entry to the family room, sit a laundry basket and a plastic bin overflowing with my daughter’s clothes. I close my eyes for a second, breathe, and walk on, ignoring the chaos.

DALE CITY, Va. — Chunks of asphalt, rocks, mud, and other debris were left behind after a geyser erupted on Catalpa Court in Dale City.

A water main break Sunday night on the neighborhood street in the Catbrier Heights section near Dale City Volunteer Fire Department Station 10 on Dale Boulevard left at least 50 townhomes without water.

Not everyone is off to the beach or getting ready for back-to-school this Labor Day weekend.

More than 400 tabletop wargamers will be spending Labor Day weekend at the NOVA Open at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. The gamers are traveling from across the U.S., Canada and Europe to participate in wargamming tournaments and other events. Expert painters and miniature designers will be leading hobby and art seminars throughout the weekend.

A few months before I was born, my first cousin Ricky drowned while out on the Potomac River. He was a teenager who grew up on the river and knew how to swim, but the currents were too much for him and his friends to handle when their boat overturned.

As you can imagine, that tragedy significantly affected my family and how we viewed the importance of learning to swim. Everyone would benefit from learning the basics on how to swim – but who should teach them and should we implement it as a curriculum in our schools?

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Who smashed and grabbed cash from six businesses in North Stafford in the overnight hours Friday?

Stafford County authorities were alerted to the string of vandalism and thefts when an alarm was triggered inside a deli on Tech Parkway, just off Va. 610, about 3 a.m. Next to the deli, a hair salon was also hit.

Good morning  – Leesylvania State Park is celebrating our National Day of Service and Remembrance on Saturday September 7th– 10:30-2:30.  This day will support local military families with a relaxing and fun day full of activities for the entire family.  Volunteers are needed for set-up, running activity stations, orienting the families of where the fun is located and of course take down.  Please call Amber at (703) 583-6904.

 


Obituaries

Anne Keziah Sanford, age 77, of, Nokesville, died Friday, August 9, 2013, at Prince William Hospital while surrounded by her family.

Born November 17, 1935, in the Goose Creek township of Union County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Buren Keziah and Lucile Hunt Keziah. Anne was a homemaker and former member of the Nokesville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, holding the offices of both Rescue Captain and Ladies’ Auxiliary President.
