Last year, six-year-old Stafford resident Dominic Beltran passed away after a long battle with neuroblastoma, and his family has decided to honor him and support funding for pediatric cancer research by hosting a second fundraiser, ‘Dining to Dominate Cancer’ today in Stafford.
The first ‘Strong for Dom’ event helped the family to raise funds for their son’s medical expenses, and this year they will continue to raise funds to help other children in need.

A man described by police as a violent felon was arrested tonight after an hours-long manhunt in a residential neighborhood near Manassas.
Earl Patrick Mitchell was located near where a police officer stopped he and another man during a traffic stop this afternoon. Mitchell fled the scene and the second man was arrested on site.
Drivers on the Interstate 95 interchange and the International Parkway may run into traffic, as the speed limit has been temporarily reduced 45 mph to 35 mph.
The reduced speeds are a result of a $48.9 million dollar Rt. 17 widening project in Stafford that will expand Rt. 17 from four to six lanes on a two-mile stretch between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway.

In an effort to help clean up the Chesapeake Bay, the federal and state government have mandated that storm water improvements be made in surrounding counties, including Stafford. The cost of these improvements will fall in the range of about $30 million dollars, according to Steve Hubble, the Assistant Director of Public Works for Stafford County.
“The County is regulated as part of the Clean Water Act for our storm water discharges, and we have a permit from the state government. It required us to do some routine activities over the last ten years, to build up our program. We also have specific goals to clean up the Chesapeake Bay, and that’s part of a mandate that came down from the federal, through the state government. That’s what the 15-year plan is tied to,” Hubble said.
You can blame two pipes below Furnace Road in North Stafford for closing the thoroughfare that links busy Garrisonville Road with three public schools: Garrisonville and Rockhill elementary schools, and A.G. Wright Middle School.
