These items displayed will honor several African-Americans that played a role in Stafford’s history. A reception is being held today at 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. to celebrate display.

Officials took issue with how the Prince William County Public School System budgets its money.

The County’s Board of Supervisors, the taxing authority, on Tuesday set the advertised property tax rate at $1.158 per $100 of assessed value for the FY2015 budget. While the final tax rate won’t be adopted until April, tax revenues collected under the tax rate of $862.3 million will go to fund the operation of county government, and 57.23% of it automatically will go to fund schools.

The Rt. 625 Passing Road Bridge has been reopened and it’s 3-ton weight limit lifted, as repairs and updates were completed on the site.

The bridge was previously a hazard, due to structural deficiency, and required new steel beams and timber deck material to be installed. While in it’s original state, the bridge had a weight limit of 3-tons, the new updates will allow the weight limit to be permanently lifted.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has found a new way to send the latest information and updates to Stafford residents, with the release of their new smartphone app.

The app, which is available for Apple and Droid phones, will alert users about job openings and volunteer opportunities in the Sheriff’s Office. There will also be a feature on the app that allows users to provide feedback on the work the Office is going, and information about traffic concerns.

Stafford County government volunteers have made a big impact in saving the county funds, volunteering up to $1 million of time in full-time staff expenses. The volunteer program for the local government has been active for several years, but this is a new milestone for the group.
