MANASSAS, Va. — The rising star and Grammy-nominated bluegrass group Dailey & Vincent will be performing at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on September 13 and 14, and will be filming the performance for broadcast on PBS.

The group has performed for the Hylton Center in the past, and this relationship led to the group’s decision to film their performance in Manassas.


Obituaries

Wilson Kieffer “W.K.” Wenrich, 95, of Miami Springs, Fla., passed away on July 12, 2014.   He was born in Manassas, Va, on June 14, 1919, the son of the late Wilson Noah and Bessie Virginia Wenrich. Since 1940, he lived in Miami Springs, Florida.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Mable Joyce, of nearly 60 years of marriage, and his daughter, Dorothy Carol.

He was a graduate of Manassas High School, in the Class of 1937.  He worked for Eastern Airlines for 42 years beginning as an aircraft mechanic and completing his career as Manager, Technical Services.

MANASSAS, Va. — On Aug. 22-24, the City of Manassas will host the Manassas Civil War Weekend at the Manassas Museum, Liberia Plantation and venues throughout Historic Downtown Manassas. Visitors will experience living history, Civil War encampments, historians, and attractions for all ages.

The annual Manassas Civil War Weekend grew out of the popular Sesquicentennial of the Civil War commemorations, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the area from across the country. This year’s commemoration will bring to life military, civilian, and African-American experiences from 150 years ago with a diverse offering of free programs, living history, and exhibits. Especially notable this year will be a lecture by nationally known Civil War historian Ed Bearss.

GAINESVILLE, Va. — The Prince William Chamber of Commerce is hosting two luncheons, one in August and one in September, for women in business. The luncheons are part of the Chamber’s Women’s Leadership Series which includes events throughout the year geared toward celebrating and cultivating the success of women in business. Now in its third year, the series is sponsored by QMT Windchimes.

The first event is on Wednesday, August 20 at 11:30 a.m. and features Prince William County Attorney Angela Horan speaking on the topic “Becoming a Women of Influence.” Horan will share her leadership philosophy and the personal and professional experiences that have helped her become a woman able to impact the world around her for the better. The luncheon will be held at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse at the Promenade at Virginia Gateway in Gainesville (13930 Promenade Commons St, Gainesville, VA 20155).

Victor Manuel Contreras, 29, of Manassas was sentenced to serve 60 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for obstructing and interfering with the enforcement of federal child sex trafficking laws.

U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente of the Eastern District of Virginia, Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division,  and Special Agent in Charge Clark E. Settle of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) made the announcement.  The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema of the Eastern District of Virginia.
