Palmer Family Celebrates Five Decades of Love

The family of Robe’rt (Bob) and Bettye Palmer are holding a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration today at the Waterford Hotel in Springfield.  Two hundred guests from across the country are expected to attend, including community leaders.

The Palmers were engaged in 1963, a pinnacle year for the Civil Rights movement.  As plans were being made for 100,000 people to converge on Washington, D.C. for the historic March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King would deliver his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, the Palmers were making a promise that has held firm for decades.  The Palmers married September 1, 1964.

· Good morning  – Manassas Neighborhood Services needs volunteers for the Color Vibe 5K Run on Saturday September 13th. This event is from 6:30am-1pm at Osbourn High School. Duties include packet pick-up, water stations and rout coordination. Volunteers are also need on Friday from 11am-6pm for packet pick-up at the Harris Pavilion. Indecent Exposure at Grocer Tied to Incident at Barnes & Noble

MANASSAS, Va. – On August 29, a 53-year-old woman told police that a man exposed himself to her at a Harris Teeter on August 26. According to the report, the description given matches that of the man who exposed himself at Barnes & Noble on August 24.

Man Pushed Off Elevator, Choked by Co-Worker, Police Say

MANASSAS, Va. – On August 28, a 35-year-old male victim was hospitalized after the male suspect, a co-worker, pushed him off of an elevator platform onto the ground and started to choke him. According to the report, the suspect left the scene before police arrived and a warrant has been issued.

Reversible HOV Lanes Changing Schedule Following Intense Summer Construction

Beginning on or about Monday, September 8, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will change the reversal times of the I-95/I-395 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to their regular hours during weekdays, to accommodate rush-hour traffic flow. The I-95/395 HOV lanes will remain open to northbound traffic until 11 a.m. and will reopen to southbound traffic by no later than 1 p.m.

The HOV lanes’ reversible operations have been following a modified schedule during the last two months, to allow the lanes to open one hour earlier for southbound traffic. This schedule change was necessary to help ease congestion on I-95 South, which was intensified due to heavy summer construction work.

Gibson: More in Prince William Open to Singing Ballot Petitions

Last week, I called it a day. The numbers just didn’t add up. I couldn’t squeeze another qualified voter out of the 1,259 signatures that lay before me. 

In order to appear on the ballot for U.S. House of Representatives as an independent candidate, I had to present signatures of registered 11th District voters to the Virginia State Board of Elections (SBE) by June 10. SBE then distributed the petitions to the general registrars of the jurisdictions that constitute the District – the counties of Fairfax and Prince William, as well as the City of Fairfax – for verification that at least 1,000 signatures were registered as voters in the 11th.
