MANASSAS, Va. — The folks at the Sears store at Manassas Mall want a formal agreement with the local bus agency for riders who park their cars in their lot.

For years, the agency, the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, has been sending buses bound for Washington to the parking lot outside the store to pick up commuters who park their cars in the. The whole time, the practice has been informal, according to PRTC.

The choir performs at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at 8 p.m. and George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at 8 p.m. Pre-performance discussions, free to ticketholders will be held 45 minutes prior to each performance in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery at the Hylton Center and Grand Tier III at the Center for the Arts (sponsored by the Friends of the Center for the Arts).

The Senegal St. Joseph’s Gospel Choir has become a symbol of peace, hope, humanity and brotherhood throughout its homeland of Senegal since the ensemble’s founding in 1950 by the late Julien Jouga, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Ambassador Artist for Peace.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — More of Garrisonville Road will soon be widened to six lanes.

The street serves as North Stafford’s main thoroughfare connecting nearly all of the neighborhoods in the area to Interstate 95, a major commuter route. The road will be widened from four to six lanes from Onville Road (where the road was widened from four to six lanes in 2008) to Shenandoah Drive, just past Eustace Road at a WaWa gas station.

MANASSAS, Va. — Over 1,100 ninth and tenth grade students at Osbourn High School (OHS) started the first day of school with a brand new Asus Transformer T100 Hybrid tablet thanks, in part, to a grant offered by the Virginia Department of Education– a trailblazing move being applauded by educators who say such devices are expected to replace traditional textbooks in the years to come.

Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) began implementation of the first of three phases of the OHS e-Backpack Digital Learning Initiative in the spring of 2014.  Aimed at bringing more 21st Century technology into the classroom, the primary goal of the initiative is to provide both students and teachers with the digital tools needed to access real-time resources that support collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication in the classroom.

MANASSAS, Va. — Officers and three new board members were elected to the Habitat for Humanity Prince William County Board of Directors for Fiscal Year 2015.

New board member, Bob Anderson, is the President/CEO of Metro Sign & Design, Inc., in Manassas Park, which he founded in 1984. Anderson has served as the past president of the Prince William Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce; past president of S.E.R.V.E., Inc.; past president of Virginia Sign Association; past president of the Center for the Arts of Greater Manassas and Prince William County; past president of the Rotary Club of Manassas; and is the current president of the Manassas Park Education Foundation.

MANASSAS, Va. – On August 31, a 22-year-old man told police that an unknown woman approached him outside of Malibu Sports Bar and Grill and when he went to the back of the restaurant two unknown men approached him, one of whom had a knife and demanded items from him.

During the encounter, the victim was struck by one of the men and the suspects stole the victim’s wallet and cell phone before leaving the area.

MANASSAS, Va. – On September 4, a 37-year-old man was robbed of his cell phone and money while he was attending a party in the area. Police say the victim was outside when he was approached by two men who left the party earlier, both of which had handguns and after robbing the victim, left on foot.
