LAS VEGAS — Los Angeles Lakers Point Guard Kendall Marshall played in the NBA’s Summer League match up Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Marshall, from Dumfries, career began at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington and he later went on to play at the University of North Carolina. His NBA debut came in 2012 when he signed with the Phoenix Suns.  Marshall has played Lakers since January.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — The owner of the Cock & Bowl restaurant in Occoquan made a pretty astute observation: A sign was erected heralding the coming of nothing. And that, said the restaurant’s owners, is refreshing.

Occoquan officials recently closed a deal that gives the town ownership of a 17-acre parcel of land, the once controversial Oaks III property, which will be turned into, well, absolutely nothing.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — Clogged drains in Occoquan could have contributed to some minor flooding Tuesday night.

As heavy rain moved through the region about 7:30 p.m. the Ballywhack Creek that runs alongside Tanyard Hill Road spilled its banks. The creek is known to flood.

DUMFRIES, Va. — A company that gives customers an option to lease-to-own items like furniture and electronics is opening a new store in Dumfries.

Aarons, Inc. will open a new store at 18069 Triangle Shopping Center on Friday, July 25. The store will sit across from the town’s police station and will cater to those with household incomes of $50,000 or less.
