PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — As we get into the traditionally hotter dog days of summer, Prince William County Executive Melissa Peacor is reminding county employees to mind their appearance in the workplace.
Here’s an email memo that went out to employees on August 6 and obtained by Potomac Local News:
MANASSAS, Va — The Prince William County Fair is underway.
The largest county fair in Virginia, as it’s been dubbed, began Friday night at the Prince William County Fairgrounds at 10624 Dumfries Road in Manassas. Several events are planned throughout the fair’s run now through August 16.
Good morning – It’s back to school time at SERVE so I have two super projects for you- first Please stop by the Philadelphia Tavern in Old Town Manassas on Thursday August 14th from 5-8pm to enjoy great prices on drinks and appetizers and lots of fun between 5-8pm and bring non-perishable food for their food pantry. Things are very sparse this time of year so please do you best to help out those less fortunate. Secondly, volunteers are needed the following week on August 19th from 3-6pm and August 20th from 9am-1pm to distribute backpacks to the kids with new school supplies. · Historic Manassas has lots of fun events and volunteers are needed to help! The first event is the Civil War Weekend on Saturday August 23rd. Volunteers are needed to be parade marshals in the morning and Bourbon servers and checking ID’s from 5:30-8:15pm. The next event on Saturday September 13th for the Bands, Brews and BBQ Festival. Volunteers are needed for the morning shift of 10:45am- 2:45 to pour beer, check ID’s, assist with ticket sales or checking the VIP tent Id’s. A week after Gov. Terry McAuliffe broke ground for a new Virginia Railway Express station in Woodbridge, construction of another station is about to begin in Spotsylvania.

HAYMARKET, Va. — The bridge that carries traffic over Interstate 66 at Haymarket will soon be demolished, and the Virginia Department of Transportation wants you to know what their plans are for that stretch of road.

The Harley Davidson of Quantico dealership will host a charity fund raiser poker run called “Nobody Fights [Cancer] Alone,” for 18-year-old Jarrod Hill, who graduated from C.D. Hylton High School in June. Diagnosed last fall, Hill underwent chemotherapy treatments in January and February. He was homeschooled at the time but was later allowed to graduate with his class.
“We anticipate several hundred motorcycles to participate in the event, which is an event that will draw people’s attention,” said event organizer Dave Jarrell.
BRISTOW, Va. – On August 5, intruders entered the Sheffield Manor Community Pool area and damaged a television in the community building. According to the report, the intruders may have entered through an unlocked door. Here’s the latest from Prince William police:
Commercial Burglary – On August 5th at 10:29AM, officers responded to the Sheffield Manor Community Pool located at 12354 Penzance Ln in Bristow (20136) to investigate a burglary. Staff reported to police that the burglary occurred between 8:00PM on August 4th and 10:00AM on August 5th.
HAYMARKET, Va. – On August 6, a homeowner told police of two separate incidents of burglary where a game console and accessories, as well as multiple watches were stolen by an intruder. According to the report, the intruder entered the home through a basement door.

The Freedom Museum, a 501 c, (3) organization, is pleased to announce that it will hold its 2nd Annual 1940’s style Hangar Dinner and Dance on October 11, 2014 on the grounds of the Manassas Airport.
The evening start at 6:30 PM and end at 11 p.m. A buffet dinner, swing music (40’s style), dancing, silent auction, and other activities will provide an enjoyable evening.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Plans for the construction of two new public safety facilities – a fire and rescue station and a police station – are still in the works.
Both separate buildings will be built at the corner of Prince William Parkway and Davis Ford Road in Woodbridge. Combined, the stations will cost $30.2 million.
