MANASSAS, Va. — In the building where once a daily newspaper was produced, vines now grow up the façade, grass grows up through cracks in the parking lot, and a sign still hangs on the front door of 9009 Church Street stating all deliveries need to be taken around back.

But no one has occupied the old Manassas Journal Messenger building since the newspaper, which changed its name to News & Messenger after combining with the Potomac News of Woodbridge, ceased publication in 2012.

It is a great pleasure to announce that Chris Bowman has accepted the call from the Manassas Church of the Brethren congregation to become our next Pastor. Pastor Bowman will begin his new role effective September 1, 2014.

Pastor Chris comes to us with over 27 years of experience. Chris has served as Pastor of the Oakton Church of the Brethren since 2004 following pastorates in Pennsylvania and Illinois.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — When a barrel containing chemicals exploded at the landfill, fears arose that a new high school being built next door may be too close for comfort.

That barrel exploded July 30 after someone dropped it off at a chemical depot at the Prince William County Sanitary Landfill at 14811 Dumfries Road at Independent Hill. The incident prompted a response from police, fire and rescue crews, and calls from the FBI. After being shut down, the landfill reopened for regular business about two hours after the explosion.

MANASSAS, Va. – On August 18, police went to Malibu Sports Pub to investigate a man arguing with security over his restaurant bill. Police said that the male suspect refused to pay the bill, resisted arrest, and while in the backseat of a police car, kicked an officer twice in the chest.

MANASSAS, Va. –– The death of a 26-year-old man found stabbed to death in a dumpster appears to be gang related.

Two suspects are in custody and four more are wanted in connection to the death of Cesar Benjamin Contreras, of Manassas. Contreras’ body was found inside a dumpster in at the Colonial Village Apartments near Old Town Manassas about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
