Snow accumulation iffy, travel impacts likely with coming storm

When it comes to the clipper system that is supposed to bring snow showers to our region Wednesday, how much snow accumulation we see – if any at all in Prince William and Stafford counties – all depends on the temperatures.

Snow showers are expected to develop about midday Wednesday bringing one to two inches of snow the region, but mainly to the northern Washington, D.C. suburbs in western Virginia and western Maryland. Our area could see less than an inch of accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

Local author writes 10th book on American Revolution

Michael Cecere, a resident of Montclair, former board president for Historic Dumfries, VA, and a current American History teacher in Fairfax County and Northern Virginia Community College, has written his tenth book on the American Revolution.

The book, entitled, A Universal Appearance of War: The Revolutionary War in Virginia, 1775-1781, chronicles the war in Virginia from start to finish. Cecere sheds light, and recognition, on many overlooked Virginia engagements. Readers will discover that although the war started off modestly in Virginia, it concluded with a dramatic flourish that required bold action and some good fortune for the allies to succeed.

Caddigan serving as VRE treasurer

. The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board instilled its 2015 slate of officers at its monthly meeting today.  The following were unanimously approved by the Operations Board in December and took on their new roles starting today:

 “Having such respected and knowledgeable public officials that really care about improving transportation serve as VRE Operations Board officers is a recipe for VRE’s continued success,” said Doug Allen, CEO of VRE.

Call to Action: Prince William’s homeless need propane cans

z• Good morning – The 25th Project provides services to homeless individuals living in camps in several locations across our community. The have an urgent need for 20# propane cans so folks can keep warm this winter. Please drop off your donation on this Monday January 19th in the Kmart parking lot on Dale Blvd between 11am-2pm. Your donation will keep someone warm by Monday night. If you need other days/times please email Jay at: [email protected].

• The fabulous kids from the Joe 15 Team would love your help by donating blood to the American Red Cross on Saturday January 24th from 9am-2:30pm. Would closing Prince William schools in zones mean fewer snow days?

David Kline, associate superintendent for Prince William schools, Lilly Jessie, Prince William School Board, and others spoke on a panel at Northern Virginia Community College.

It’s been a rough start to the New Year for the Prince William County Public School division.

On Jan. 6, it snowed heavily across portions of Prince William and Fairfax counties as a clipper system “over performed” and peppered frozen precipitation across the area, resulting in more snow than forecasters originally thought the storm would bring.
