Va. decides not to change rules that withhold documents from defense
The criminal justice system in Virginia appeared to be on the verge of radical change, at last. In a state where defendants are not entitled to the police reports in their case, the witness statements against them or even a witness list, a prominent committee issued a detailed report late last year proposing to carefully change all that, and more. Parents will get their say over a planned elementary school next to Chinn Park Regional Library in Woodbridge.
A public hearing is scheduled Jan. 7, 2016 to give parents new information about the planned school that aims to relieve overcrowded conditions at other nearby elementary schools.

The Virginia State Corporation Commission will hold a public hearing in Haymarket to solicit public comments about a new overhead transmission line to be built.
The 5-mile, 230 kilovolt line will run from Prince William Parkway west on Interstate 66. It will pass by several homes in Haymarket, and property owners fear the unsightly power line will degrade property values.

Fire and rescue crews broke out a window to get inside a house that was on fire.
Crews were called to the 11900 block of Cottonmill Drive in Lake Ridge at 1:59 p.m. Friday after fire broke out in a kitchen of a two-story single family home.

Loudoun County sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell said Stancill had encounters with an underage girl on several occasions, and that he met the girl at a public event. He could not provide any more species about the event.
One man is in custody this morning charged in the death of 67-year-old mother.
