The Stafford County School Board has been making progress on becoming a school division of which we can all be proud. They still have a long way to go, but finally, they are headed in the right direction.

Over the last 12 years, the school division has been headed in the wrong direction. Crowded classrooms, understaffed schools, lack of parity throughout the division, and financial & legal scandals had become the norm.

From Prince William police: 

Possession of Child PornographyIn October of 2016, information was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that the suspect, later identified as the accused, was uploading child pornography to the internet. On November 1, detectives from the Prince William County Police Special Victim’s Unit and the Northern Virginia/Metropolitan D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence in the 3000 block of Forestdale Ave in Woodbridge (22193) regarding the investigation. Evidence supporting the possession of child pornography was seized. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Andrew EMANN, was arrested.

Stafford’s voters spoke loud and clear last year in the Griffis-Widewater school board race. 

Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing, yet again, as they select their school board representative in less than two weeks.  Stafford families deserve a representative with fresh ideas and 21st-century thinking to solve 21st-century education challenges.  Someone with a vested interest in seeing the school division continue on its  critical path the excellence.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where a young adult female was sexually assaulted along Kings Highway in Stafford. Below is a photo of the shirt that was left by the suspect at the scene as well as the composite drawing of the suspect that was distributed last evening. Steven Burke, PE has been selected as the Director of Public Works for the City of Manassas.  In this position, Burke will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of all City of Manassas Public Works activities, including the Street Department, Traffic Controls, Vehicle Maintenance, Buildings and Grounds, Cemeteries, Horticulture, Stormwater and Trash and Recycling programs.

American Disposal Services has partnered with carton recycling nonprofit, Carton Council, to launch an awareness campaign to increase recycling of food and beverage carton packaging throughout parts of the DC Metro area. The campaign aims to further boost Suburban Washington’s recycling rate by letting residents know that food and beverage cartons such as those used for milk and orange juice can now be recycled and should be thrown in their Single Stream recycling bin, the same place where residents currently recycle their glass, plastic and cans.
