DUMFRIES, Va. — The next Dumfries police chief and police officers will soon have seven bosses.
The Dumfries Town Council voted to consolidate oversight powers of the Police Chief and town police officers, taking it from the Town Manager and giving it to the Council. The elected, seven-member board of politicians will now have the final say over how the department is run.
The proposal to extend Virginia Railway Express to Haymarket and Gainesville is dead.
The Virginia Railway Express Operations Board on Friday will vote to relocate the Broad Run station from Manassas Regional Airport about a mile east, near the intersection of Route 28 and Godwin Drive, according to multiple sources familiar with the project.
Delegate Richard L. Anderson (R-51st) and his legislative staff have put the finishing touches on the 51st House District “Future Delegate Program” at the Virginia state capitol in Richmond.
Now in its fifth year, the program brings public, private, and home-schooled students from grades 7 through 12 to Capitol Square in Richmond for a day-long immersion in the legislative processes of the Virginia General Assembly. The Future Delegate Program focuses on the policy process and exposes students and families to legislative life in Richmond. The goal is for students to return home with a greater appreciation for the business of the Virginia House of Delegates, where Del. Anderson has served for seven years since retiring from the US Air Force as a colonel after a 30-year military career. Anderson’s aim is to convince students why they should enter public service as their life’s calling.

Prince William County supervisors will vote December 13 on a resolution that could freeze Virginia Railway Express (VRE) service and block future expansion. If approved, the resolution would prioritize local funding for new road construction instead of expanding commuter rail service.
The resolution is based on the results of the Phase I study of the proposed Gainesville-Haymarket extension. The numbers caught VRE’s staff by surprise. The projected benefits are far lower than expected.

Detectives are investigating a shooting which occurred in the 3500 block of Forestdale Ave sometime earlier this morning or late last night. Two male victims arrived at two different area hospitals with gun shot wounds to the body. The investigation is continuing. At this point, there does not appear to be a public threat. Suspicious Person Incident – On December 8 at 10:15AM, officers responded to the area of Ketterman Dr and Kerrydale Rd near Kerrydale Elementary School in [Dale City] (22193) to investigate a suspicious person call. The victim, a 10-year-old girl, reported to police that she was walking home from the school on December 7 around 4:00PM when she was approached by an unknown man driving a small, red sedan. During the encounter, the man asked the girl, “Do you want to come in my car. I have candy.” The victim ran home and notified family members who disclosed the incident to school staff the following day. The suspect never exited the vehicle and did not approach the victim. The investigation continues.
