Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center’s first baby of 2017 is a boy, Colt Alan Hopkins born at 8:23 p.m. on January 3 delivered by Eugene Louie-Ng, MD and weighing in at 8 lbs. 6 ounces and 20 inches long. Parents are Heather and Alan Hopkins of Culpeper, Va. Older brother Tyler age two will welcome him at home.

SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/…
Skies cloud up quickly on Thursday as a jet streak crosses the area. Guidance still suggesting that there will be enough upper diffluence to induce some associated precipitation. Thermally, this will be cold enough for snow. While there is basic agreement in this solution, there are some fine-scale detail adjustments/differences.

The text of an email from Occoquan District Supervisor Ruth Anderson to Prince William County Public Works Director Thomas Brunn:

“A few weeks ago, I was alerted to a problem with “lack of lighting” at the Chinn Center bus stop shelter……….both in early mornings and after dark in the evenings.  I did meet with Perrin from PRTC after dark one evening to confirm that it is a problem.  I do know from a previous experience that there are some folks who “hang out” in this area…so, good lighting is needed.

On Sunday, January 1st, at 2:06 a.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a two-story single family home located in the 13000 block of Kerrydale Road in Woodbridge.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed fire showing from the rear of the home. A request for a second alarm was issued due to reports of people trapped in the structure. As firefighters attacked the fire, the homeowner arrived on scene and confirmed all occupants were safely out of the home except for their pets. During extinguishment, firefighters located and rescued the owner’s three dogs in which one sustained minor injuries.

Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center’s first baby of 2017 is a boy,  Alexander Diaz Cruz born at 1:47 a.m. January 1 delivered by Dr. Andrea Jackson and weighing in at 8 lbs. 6 ounces and 20 ¾  inches long. Parents are Vladimir Diaz and Sindy Cruz of Manassas, Va.  Alexander has two older siblings age six and seven waiting for him at home.

From police:

Malicious Wounding | Shooting InvestigationOn January 1 at 1:50AM, officers responded to investigate a shooting which occurred in the 15400 block of Wheatfield Dr in Dumfries (22025) earlier that evening. The investigation revealed that the accused was in the above area when he was involved in a verbal altercation with several subjects in a vehicle. During the encounter, the accused brandished a handgun and shot into the vehicle striking one of the occupants, a 19-year-old man of Woodbridge, in the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. Following the investigation, detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau obtained warrants for the arrest of the accused. The accused was located and arrested without incident at his residence later that day.
