BRISTOW — Prince William County writer Katherine Mercurio Gotthardt has released her sixth book entitled “Late April,” a collection of poetry written between April 2018 and April 2019. April holds significance in that it is National Poetry Month.  

This latest collection is what Gotthardt and her readers describe as eclectic.

John Gray is once again running for the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Gray has previously run as a candidate for positions on the Board of Supervisors on two separate occasions. In his last bid for Chairman, At-large in 2011, Gray ran against Prince Corey Stewart. Gray ran as an Independent and lost that race.

Yesli Vega is former Prince William County Sheriff’s Deputy, and a police officer.

She now wants the job of Coles District Supervisor on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. It’s a seat being vacated by Martin Nohe, who is running for Board Chairman At-large.

Michael C. “Mike” May is making his second run for Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney.

In 2015, he was the Republican nominee for the seat but lost to Paul Ebert, who held the job since 1968. May stepped down from his elected position on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors to run for the office.

Marjorie Elaine Martin Coan, almost 97 years old, of Lake Ridge, VA, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Born May 25, 1922, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Leona Blanche Armstrong Martin, and Grady Leroy Martin. She grew up in Charlotte, N.C. with her sister Ruth Elizabeth Martin, and brother William Franklin Martin. In her late teens, she won the title of Miss Charlotte of North Carolina, and later became Miss North Carolina runner-up for the Miss America beauty pageant. At age 19, after completing her first year at Brevard College, N.C., she married the love of her life, George Pruitt Coan, Sr. Marjorie worked for seven years as an administrative secretary at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, until she became a professional mother to her three children, and a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She devoted herself to her family, sacrificing and working hard to provide love, care, and guidance throughout their lives.

MANASSAS — The Leaseweb Manassas Air Show takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m to  4 p.m.

The annual event at the Manassas Regional Airport, at 10600 Hary J. Parrish Boulevard brings thousands into the city for a show of aerial stunts and acrobatics, as well as food, demonstrations, and vendors.

MANASSAS — If you can’t make the Kentucky Derby this year, Manassas plans to bring the derby home to you.

The city will hold its first “Historic Downtown Derby” on Friday afternoon, May 3, as part of its monthly First Friday events.


DUMFRIES — Police are investigating an attempted break-in at Croppers Towing and Tires in Dumfries.

Police say officers were called at 9:11 p.m to the business at 17735 Farley Blvd in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a burglary-in-progress. The business owner reported to police that he was working at the location after hours when a noise was heard coming from the rear garage door.
