George Youravich, Sr., a long-time former resident of the Town of Quantico, passed away peacefully at his home in Montclair on Thursday, May 8th surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Youravich, the fourth child of John and Anna (nee Hrif), was born on November 20, 1920 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and subsequently lived a considerable part of his childhood in Youngstown, Ohio. He enlisted in the United States Navy (USN) on December 15, 1942 and became a humble contributor to the “Greatest Generation” when he proudly served with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific theater. Following the successful conclusion of the World War II conflict, the USN assigned Mr. Youravich to the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station in Quantico where he met the “love of his life”, his wife Sarah. George and Sarah were joined together in holy matrimony on his birthday in 1946 and were married for 44 years before her sudden passing in July 1991. Mr. Youravich left military service on December 14, 1948 and settled in the Town of Quantico before moving to Montclair in 1994. Following his six years with the USN, he was the owner and operator of Lucky Taxi before joining the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) as a residential mail carrier in 1962. Mr. Youravich retired from USPS’s Woodbridge office in January 1981 and was able to pursue full-time his passion for gardening and the beach. With his passing, George’s love of his family, Christian faith and patriotism will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
Mr. Youravich’s survivors include a son Tony and his wife Debby of Woodbridge, a son George, Jr. and his wife Joan also of Woodbridge, a daughter Linda and her husband Bill of Amelia, Ohio and a daughter Vikki of Montclair. He is also survived by his grandchildren Aaron and his wife Joanie, Troy, Tina and her husband Brian, Brett and his wife Beverly, Jason, Rick, Billy and his wife Shaun and Wade as well as 22 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Youravich was pre-deceased in June 2012 by his granddaughter Danielle Nicole (“Nicky”) Woble.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made to any of the following organizations: Action In Community Through Service (ACTS); the American Diabetes Association; the Potomac Crest Baptist Church; and the Hospice organization of your choice.
