DUMFRIES, Va. — Police say an arranged meeting between a man and a woman at a Dumfries hotel room led to an armed robbery.
The 23-year-old female victim in the case told police she arranged to meet a man she didn’t know at a Comfort Inn on Old Stage Coach Road. Police were called there at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday.
When the man arrived at the room, the woman recognized the man as someone she had “met a few years ago,” according to police. The man became nervous while inside the room and then left.
He later returned with another man, police said. The woman then refused to let the two men enter the hotel room, and then one of the men forced his way into the room, pulled out a handgun, and robbed the victim of her laptop, cell phone, and cash, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
While police were investigating the crime, they learned that the robbery had been orchestrated by a third man — a man who was involved in a fight with the female victim the day before, police said.
Police obtained warrants for Johnathon Davon Coleman, 21, of Knolle Drive in Woodbridge, and identified him as the man who committed the robbery. He’s described as black,, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with a medium build, black hair, and brown eyes, and is wanted for robbery and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, said police.
Police are still working on the identity of the third man police said orchestrated the robbery. No charges were brought for the man who initially met the victim inside the hotel room.
