In Stafford County, deputies reported arrests for assault and battery, multiple driving under the influence cases, shoplifting, narcotics possession, and public intoxication. Several fraud reports, including Sheriff’s Office impersonation scams, were also logged.
Here is a summary of recent incidents from local law enforcement.
Prince William County Police
Unlawful Filming at Manassas Hotel
On August 10 at 7:38 p.m., officers responded to the Tempo by Hilton hotel at 9849 Discovery Blvd in Manassas for a suspicious person. An 18-year-old woman said she was using a restroom when a phone appeared under the stall. She confronted an unknown man, who then left the hotel through a side door. No injuries or physical contact were reported. The victim photographed the suspect and gave the image to police.
The same man is believed to have been on the hotel property near the women’s restroom area on July 28. Officers checked the area both times but did not locate him.
Suspect description: Black male, late teens to early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180-200 pounds, short black hair, clean-shaven. Last seen wearing a black t-shirt with a blue and yellow graphic, khaki shorts, black ankle socks, and gray and white Nike shoes.
Brandishing a Firearm Arrest
On August 10, officers finished investigating a road rage incident that occurred near Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road in Woodbridge on July 31 around 1 p.m. A 58-year-old man said another driver brandished a firearm toward him during an altercation. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. The victim provided a license plate that identified the other driver.
Brandon Spruill, 29, of Woodbridge, turned himself in on August 10 and was charged with brandishing a firearm. He was released on personal recognizance. A court date is pending.
Stafford County Sheriff’s Office
Assault and Battery Arrest
On August 9 at 5:35 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance on Garrison Woods Drive. Two people argued and the suspect struck the victim in the face. The suspect admitted hitting the victim. Laretta McMillan, 44, of Stafford, was charged with assault and battery and released on personal recognizance.
Driving Under the Influence Arrests
On August 8 at 12:26 a.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle near Woodstock Lane and Telegraph Road after it failed to maintain its lane. The driver and passenger showed signs of impairment, and empty alcoholic containers were visible. The driver refused a breath sample at the scene. Mynor Guerra, 20, of Woodbridge, was charged with driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, and drinking while operating a motor vehicle. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond. Passenger Joseph Otero Nunez, 18, of Stafford, was charged with public intoxication and held until sober.
On August 8 at 3:03 a.m., a deputy found a driver asleep at a traffic light on Wyche Road. Field sobriety tests and a breath sample were conducted. A small bag of narcotics was also found. Herbert Sorto, 30, of Fredericksburg, was charged with driving under the influence and possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance. He was held on an unsecured bond.
On August 9 at 8:28 p.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle on Warrenton Road that failed to maintain its lane and ran a red light before pulling into a parking lot. Open alcoholic containers were visible. Ricardo Garcia Cobix, 39, of Fredericksburg, was charged with driving under the influence, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, a traffic lane violation, and failure to obey traffic lights. He was held on a secured bond.
Shoplifting Arrests
On August 7 at 2:28 p.m., deputies responded to a larceny report at the Walmart on Garrisonville Road. Surveillance video showed two people placing items in a cart and leaving without paying for all of them. Demetrius Lyons-Carroll, 23, of Stafford, was charged with two counts of shoplifting and released on personal recognizance. Azzareya Scarborough, 21, of Stafford, was charged with three counts of shoplifting and also released on personal recognizance.
On August 8 at 4:24 p.m., a deputy responded to a larceny report at the Target on Stafford Marketplace. The suspect admitted to repeated thefts over several months. Anthony Segovia, 18, of Stafford, was charged with 12 counts of shoplifting and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.
Narcotics Arrest
On August 8 at 11:26 a.m., a deputy responded to a suspicious person call at the Red Roof Inn on Garrisonville Road after a guest failed to check out and left a room in disarray. Drug paraphernalia and narcotics were found inside. Corey Riffe, 33, of Stafford, admitted ownership of the items, was charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, and was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Public Intoxication Arrest
On August 9 at 8:22 a.m., a deputy responded to a suspicious person report at the Excel Inn and Suites on Warrenton Road. A highly intoxicated person was found asleep. Dorthy Lansdowne, 47, of Fredericksburg, was charged with public intoxication.
Fraud and Other Reports
Deputies took multiple fraud reports between August 7 and 8, including two separate Stafford County Sheriff’s Office impersonation scams in which callers claimed victims had warrants and demanded Bitcoin payments. Other reports involved bank and check scams and unauthorized account transactions. Victims were advised to contact their banks and stop communication with the callers.
A vehicle larceny was reported in the area of Auction Drive on August 10 after items were taken from a parked car over the weekend. A vehicle window was vandalized in the area of Stanley Loop on August 7. No suspects were identified in either case.
