Fraudulent Email Leads to Paycheck Theft in Stafford

In Stafford County, a significant fraud incident occurred at Colonial Circuits Inc. on Warrenton Road. The business was deceived by an email from someone posing as an employee, providing false banking details for direct deposit. The scam was discovered only after the paycheck was deposited into the fraudulent account.

Another fraud case was reported on Greenridge Drive, where a victim’s personal information was used to open a fraudulent line of credit out-of-state. Additionally, on Le Way Drive, a victim found that their personal information was used to purchase two vehicles fraudulently.

In a separate incident, a wallet was stolen from a vehicle on Melanie Hollow Lane, leading to unauthorized purchases on the victim’s credit cards.

FRAUD
Colonial Circuits Inc., 1026 Warrenton Road, 12/1 9:22 a.m. Deputy C. M. Keens handled a fraud complaint. The business reported that they received an email from someone posing to be one of their employees. The email provided updated banking information for direct deposit. Once the paycheck was deposited, the business learned that the email and account were fraudulent.
Greenridge Drive, 12/1 9:52 a.m. Deputy F. C. O’Neill responded to handle a fraud complaint. The victim reported that someone used his personal information to open a fraudulent line of credit out-of-state.
Le Way Drive, 12/1 4:33 p.m. Deputy L. T. Smith responded to a fraud complaint. The victim reported that someone fraudulently purchased two vehicles utilizing their personal information.

LARCENY
Melanie Hollow Lane, 12/1 5:08 p.m. Deputy S. C. Steinway responded for a reported theft. The victim advised that their wallet was stolen from their vehicle. There were fraudulent purchases made on the victim’s credit cards that were contained within the purse.
