
A house fire in Dumfries on Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2025, forced five adults from their home after flames broke out on the backside of the residence in the 3000 block of Desert Palm Court. Fire crews arrived around 1:21 p.m. to find moderate fire damage. No one was hurt, but the house was declared unsafe to occupy.
Investigators say a buildup of lint in the dryer vent sparked the fire. The Fire Marshal’s Office is urging residents to have dryer vent lines professionally cleaned once a year to prevent similar hazards.

Yesterday afternoon units were dispatched to the 3000 blk of Desert Palm Ct. (Dumfries) for a reported house fire. Crews arrived on the scene to discover fire on the backside of a single-family dwelling. The home sustained moderate damage and was declared unsafe to occupy by the Building Official. The incident displaced 5 adults. No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined excessive lent build-up in the dryer vent ignited causing the fire.
Excessive lint build-ups will impact the efficiency of your dryer but most importantly is a serious fire hazard. The Fire Marshal’s Office recommends dryer vent lines be cleaned yearly by professionally trained staff.
