DUMFRIES, Va. — A McDonald’s restaurant will stand where there once was a restaurant named “True Grit.”
Construction is underway for the new fast food eatery at the Triangle Shopping Plaza, where the Dumfries Police Station is located. The building that housed the old True Grit restaurant has been demolished which cleared the way for the new fast food eatery.
“The new McDonald’s will help to offset the tax burden on the residents through increased sales and meals taxes,” said Dumfries Economic Development Director Debi Sandlin.
The restaurant was able to locate in the shopping center thanks to a deal brokered between McDonalds and owners of the Triangle Shopping Plaza, Curtis Brothers Investment. Sandlin also credits the town’s effort to fast-track the site planning process as a key element that lured McDonalds to the small town.
The new restaurant will replace a McDonalds that was demolished as part of Prince William County’s $65.8 million effort to widen U.S. 1 to six lanes in Triangle near the National Museum of the Marine Corps. It will compliment another McDonald’s location on Va. 234 at Interstate 95.
A Chick-fil-A fast food restaurant is also planned for the Va. 234 corridor near Dumfries.
