Police Targeting Horner Commuter Lot

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A new initiative just announced late Sunday night will target parking violators at Woodbridge’s Horner Road Commuter Lot.

The increased enforcement will be rolled out in two phases: the first starting Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 29, when drivers who park anywhere other than a designated parking space will receive a warning from Virginia State or local police. During second phase staring Monday, July 2, illegally parked cars will be ticketed, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

Vehicles illegally parked or those that pose a traffic hazard will be towed at their owner’s expense during the second phase of the enforcement.

“The campaign is in response to continuing complaints about vehicles being illegally parked and the dangerous hazards those vehicles pose to pedestrians and other motorists moving through the Horner Road lot on Route 3000 (Prince William Parkway),” stated Geller in an email late Sunday night.

The Horner Road Commuter Lot is one of the largest in Virginia and can accommodate up to 2,000 cars, but the lot fills with parked cars early on weekday mornings. An overflow commuter lot is being built across the street and is slated to open later this year.

Currently, drivers are parking in areas with “No Parking” signs posted, on landscaped areas, or along one of the two lanes that allow traffic to travel in and out of the commuter lot, said Geller.
