Manassas Park scrubs community center from stem to stern

The Manassas Park Community Center is completely clean, once again, with some newly refurbished features.

It reopened Saturday after being closed six days, for what the center calls its annual cleaning week. The wipe down comes each year after the center’s summer camp ends.

This year, crews worked on

  • Painting/touching up walls
  • Reorganizing all equipment
  • Dusted, literally everywhere (high dusting, underneath everything)
  • Clean/scrubbed all furniture and equipment. (they even shampoo the cushioned chairs used for banquet hall rentals.)
  • At the aquatics center, they drained the pool and scrubbed it to remove any algae, as well as fix the grout on tiles.
  • Redo floors in the gym and dance studio (new this year)
  • Replaced all the toilets in the women’s locker room in the aquatics area

“Having a dedicated week to pay special attention to the facility is really helpful not just to keep the facility clean but to address maintenance issues,” said MPCC spokesman Jason Shriner.

City parks and recreation staff perform the cleaning. Contractors are hired to complete larger tasks like refurbishing the gym floor.

The center offers programs from everything from creative writing and math tutoring, to personal training, youth basketball, and pickleball. It’s located at 99 Adams Street in Manassas Park.
