GAINESVILLE — House of Mercy is launching it’s annual “U is for Undies” drive, to collect new underwear and new socks for those in need in our community.
Underwear and socks are much-needed items for everyone, yet they are not always easy to come by.
The charity is holding a drive-thru donation on Friday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at his headquarters at 8170 Flannery Court near Gainesville.
Those who make donations are asked to purchase packages of new underwear and socks – any size, any gender, then bring them to House of Mercy, roll down the car window, then and toss them in the donation bin.
In addition to underwear, the charity seeks volunteers who are available from 8 to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday to help rescue food from local grocery stores & restaurants.
House of Mercy is looking for 10-12 people to sign up on a rotating basis to help take food donated from restaurants to the food pantry on Flannery Court. Most pickups are in Gainesville, Haymarket and Manassas, said charity director Jessica Root.
House of Mercy serves about 400 people each week, with free food and clothing.
