MANASSAS — A longtime Manassas doctor will be remembered Sunday.
John Gonzalez Memorial Foundation will host its first annual event called Operation JOHN (Joy Of Holidays Never-ending) at Novant Prince William Hospital from 9 a.m. to noon.
It honors Dr. John Gonzalez, an OB/GYN who died suddenly on May 8. He worked at the Novant/UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center for 25 years.
At Sunday’s charity event, free Christmas trees and ornaments will be given out, and money will be raised for the Labor & Delivery Department at Novant Prince William through the sale of baked goods and a silent auction.
The family-friendly event that is free to the public.
Gonzalez’s wife Michele and his four children established the John Gonzalez Memorial Foundation this year to honor his legacy after his passing. His legacy is one of steadfast service to the community, according to his family.
Gonzalez was consistently recognized in Washingtonian Magazine’s annual survey of Top Doctors as one of the best 100 OB/GYN physicians in the Washington Metropolitan area. He also volunteered his time and skills to the Prince William Free Clinic and completed a medical mission trip to Haiti each year.
Throughout his career, Gonzalez delivered over 7,000 babies.
