Fredericksburg District issues weekly traffic alert for Dec. 21

“Alternating northbound and southbound lane closures on Route 17 between Poplar Road and Hartwood Church Road” are scheduled Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for median improvements, the Virginia Department of Transportation reported. “Intersection improvement projects are underway on Route 1 at the intersections with Fall Hill Avenue and Princess Anne Street/Hanson Avenue,” with most lane closures occurring overnight and outside of peak weekday commute times.

Additional work continues in Stafford County on Route 1 at Telegraph Road and Woodstock Lane, where crews are realigning the intersection, adding turn lanes, installing new traffic signals, and placing a concrete median to restrict turning movements. Separate construction is also underway at the Route 1 and Courthouse Road intersection to widen the highway to four lanes with a concrete median, add sidewalks and crosswalks, and improve access at Bells Hill Road and Hope Road. These locally administered projects are expected to be completed between fall 2026 and summer 2027.
