Malawi’s Pizza at Spotsylvania Towne Center Has Closed—Here’s Their Goodbye

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A popular local pizza spot known for its mission-driven dining has officially closed its doors. The owners of Malawi’s Pizza in Spotsylvania Towne Center near Fredericksburg shared the news, saying the decision was made for personal reasons.

Malawi’s Pizza first opened in Fredericksburg in 2016 and quickly became more than just a restaurant—it was a place where the community gathered. In 2021, Potomac Local News covered the launch of their food truck, which took their “Pizza With a Purpose” mission on the road, expanding their reach while continuing to support meals for children in Malawi, Africa.

In their farewell, owners Patrick and Rebecca Church thanked locals for nearly a decade of support, describing customers as “friends, neighbors, and family.” They reflected on the many memories made over the years—from birthdays to casual dinners—and expressed deep gratitude for the community’s role in their journey.

Here’s the full press release:

To Our Valued Guests and Community,
After much thought and with heavy hearts, we are announcing that Malawi’s Pizza Fredericksburg is now officially closed. This decision was made for personal reasons, and while it was not easy, it is the right step for our family at this time.
We are deeply grateful for the incredible support you’ve shown us over the years — from the day we announced in 2016 to our very last pizza served. This community has been more than just customers; you’ve been friends, neighbors, and family.
Thank you for allowing us to share our passion for great food and for joining us in making a difference through the “Pizza With a Purpose” mission. The memories made here — from birthday celebrations to casual dinners and everything in between — will always have a special place in our hearts.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Fredericksburg, for making these years unforgettable.
With gratitude,
Patrick & Rebecca
