A Woodbridge hospital is one of 14 in Virginia to receive high marks for heart-attack patient care.
Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center received an American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ? MI Registry Performance Achievement Award for 2022. It was one of seven Sentara Healthcare hospitals in Virginia that received the Platinum award, the highest achievement, awarded to 240 hospitals nationwide.
The award recognizes Sentara’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. Each hospital reached a goal of treating patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
“This is an incredible recognition for Sentara Healthcare to have our cardiac and emergency services team members recognized for the life-saving care they provide when patients are in their most vulnerable moments,” said Ashford Denman, Division Vice President of Cardiovascular Services at Sentara Healthcare. “To see so many of our hospitals receive this honor reinforces our commitment at Sentara to provide high-level, quality care in every community we serve.”
To receive a Chest Pain MI Registry Performance Achievement Award, hospitals must demonstrate sustained achievement in the Chest Pain MI Registry for at least four consecutive quarters and perform with distinction for specific performance measures. Sentara hospitals have continued to be recognized with this performance achievement award for the past 10 years.
SNVMC was the only hospital in our area to be awarded the achievement.
Sentara heart specialists treat more than 2,500 heart attack patients yearly and have expertise in treating heart attacks and minimizing complications. In addition to emergency care, the hospital offers cardiac rehab services, Ornish Lifestyle Medicine, and pulmonary rehab services.
