JoAnne Hinton passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 3, 2021 in Alexandria, Virginia at the age of 64.
JoAnne is survived by her son, Morris Edward Hinton; her granddaughter, Brittany; her great-granddaughter ZyâMonnie her parents, Ernest and Ann Austin; her brothers, Eric, John, and Kenneth; and her sisters, Bertha, Dorothy, and Lisa.
Along with her immediate relatives, she is survived by a host of family, friends, loved ones, and her beloved companion of over 20 years, Jessie Taylor.
She is preceded in death by her son, Warren Hinton.
JoAnne was born on August 18, 1956 in Washington, DC. She graduated from T.C. Williams High School in 1975. JoAnne was well known in the Alexandria area as âAuntieâ or âMomma Joâ. Known for her boundless generosity, she opened her home to many in need of a hot meal and a bed. What she had to spare, she shared with an open heart.
Those close to her will never forget her beautiful smile. She was an amazing cook – you could feast at her home and still rave about it weeks later. She knew her way around the Alexandria area better than a cab driver – especially impressive for someone who didnât drive. She made lifelong friends from Mount Vernon to Landmark.
The family celebrates her human experience and the unforgettable ways in which JoAnne impacted their lives. Her generosity, personality, quirks, faults, and strengths will be with them always.
A private family memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Mountcastle Turch Life Celebration Home at 4143 Dale Blvd, Woodbridge, Virginia 22193 from 6:00-6:30 PM.
The public is welcome to pay their respects from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and out of deepest concern for the health and safety of all, the family asks that all attendees wear a mask unless medically unable to do so, and to maintain social distancing at all times.
