‘Potomac Shores’ Middle School is set to open in Woodbridge. Here’s who will be affected

Prince William County Public Schools will hold a series of webinars to discuss planning for the future opening ‘Potomac Shores’ Middle School in Woodbridge.

The first virtual meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, May 7.

Residents who have children that go to the following schools should consider attending the webinar, as they will most likely be affected when the new school opens:

  • Beville
  • Fred Lynn
  • Graham Park
  • Hampton
  • Potomac
  • Rippon
  • Saunders
  • Woodbridge Middle

During the virtual meeting, boundary plans developed by the Boundary Planning Committee will be shared.

The meeting will include more specific information about the plans, along with their ideas for relieving overcrowding at various middle schools in the eastern area of Prince William County. The Boundary Planning Committee will also welcome public input on their proposed boundary plans.

Those who wish to speak during the meeting should have a working microphone on their computer, and then follow this two-step process to make a public statement during the community meeting:

Step 1 – Register with GoToWebinar
Please register for “Potomac Shores” Middle School Attendance Area Planning- Community Meeting (1 of 2) on May 7, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Step 2 – Sign up to speak
Complete the form requesting to speak by 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7.

Those who don’t wish to speak may still view the meeting live by visiting pwcstv.com.

Those who wish to submit a written public statement about proposed middle school attendance areas may do so before Monday, May 11.

These statements will be publicly available on Tab – 8 on the Potomac Shores Middle School Boundary Portal.

A recording of the community meeting will be made available in the days following the webinar. A link will be posted on the Potomac Shores Middle School Boundary Portal and on Twitter.

The second, and final, community meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, May 14.

The “Potomac Shores” Middle School Boundary Planning Committee’s recommendations will be presented to School Board at its meeting on Wednesday, May 20, and School Board will vote on the 2021-22 middle school attendance areas on Wednesday, June 10.

There will be opportunities for community members to speak at both meetings before School Board votes on the 2021-22 middle school attendance areas.

The county refers to the new school as “Potomac Shores” Middle School, however, the school has not yet received an official name.
