It is with great sadness that the family of Alvah Ronald East announce his passing at his home on November 29, 2019 surrounded by his closest loved ones. Known to family and friends as Ron, he was born on February 16, 1939 in McDowell, West Virginia to Alvah K East and Clorine Burnette. Joined the US Marines Corp, at the age of 17 in 1956, he was a mortar man, received a good conduct medal, was honorably discharged 1960. He then joined the US Army in 1960, was known as an expert with a rifle and carbine, honorable discharge in 1963. Worked for the DC government as an assistant superintend for SWMP for 28 years. Followed by Fairfax County Government as an assistant superintend for the Department of Solid Waste, retiring in 2002. During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his dogs and family, drinking coffee and enjoying cigars. Ron will be lovingly remembered by sister Rita Mill and her husband Jimmy, his brother Dennis East and his wife Sandy, his children Tim East, Diane East Funk, her husband William, and step children Anne Freel, her husband Tim, Robby Kennon, his wife Lorelei, Tim Kennon, and his wife Holli. They will all miss his stories, advice and humor. He will fondly be remembered by his grandchildren Britney, Michelle, Haley, Alexis, Emily, Brayden, Daniel, Troy, Peighton, Kyle, Karsyn, great granddaughter Makynleigh, and many nieces and nephews, as he was always willing to show them all how to swing a golf club, while hitting golf balls in his back yard. Ron is proceeded in life by his parents, daughter Tammie East Hill, and brothers Roger East, Aubie East, and Jesse East.
Services will be held at Mountcastle Turch Life Celebration Home, 4143 Dale Blvd. Woodbridge, VA 22193. Viewing will be Wednesday, December 4th 6-8 PM, funeral service will be Thursday, December 5th at 10:30 AM, burial to follow at Quantico National Cemetery at Noon.
