Victim estimates $1.2 million in damages caused to construction equipment

STAFFORD COUNTY — Someone vandalized a construction site and left $1.2 million in damage.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office was called Tuesday, May 14 to a construction site on Potomac Creek Drive for a report of vandalism of heavy equipment.

Deputies talked with a man who said he found extensive damage to one of the excavators when he arrived at the site that morning, said Stafford Sheriff’s spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo.

It appears that someone used one excavator to damage another excavator at the site. Orange paint from one piece of equipment was found on the other. The complainant estimated $1.2 million in damages, said Vicinanzo.

The machine was last seen in good working condition on May 11. Additional patrol units have been assigned to the area where the crime occurred.
