Maryland man charged in fatal Manassas hit and run

MANASSAS — A woman struck by a vehicle Sunday night in Manassas has died.

Police now have a suspect in custody following a hit-and-run investigation.

From Manassas police:

The victim in the hit and run that occurred on March 24 succumbed to her injuries. The victim is identified as Shamsa BEGUM, a 66 year-old resident of Manassas. The investigation revealed the victim, who was known to the suspect, was standing in the roadway on Cloverhill Road when she was intentionally struck by the suspect.

The suspect fled the scene and was later located by Prince William County Police at 12125 Dumfries Rd (7-Eleven) and taken into custody. The suspect, Muhammad TAHA, is charged with Second Degree Murder and Hit and Run Involving Death.

TAHA was also charged with Driving Under the Influence and Open Container by Prince William County Police. TAHA is being held without bond and a court date is scheduled for May 20, 2019 at 11:30 a.m.
