If you’ve been to Farmville recently you might be familiar with the hotel that will be built at the Landing at Cannon Branch in Manassas

MANASSAS — Developers at The Landing at Cannon Branch want a hotel that will cater to millennials.

They’re are leaning toward the brand “Tru by Hilton,” a hotel concept is known for its vibrant-colored lobby with space to play games and work, free breakfast, and smaller than average hotel rooms. The Manassas Tru will be four stories tall with up to 100 rooms.

The $15 million hotel still needs to pass two more investor reviews, according to Austin Haynes, of Holladay Properties, the firm brokering the deal. When approved, construction could begin in March 2019 with an anticipated opening date of March 2020.

Haynes said the hotel would cater to business travelers at nearby Innovation Park and George Mason Science and Technology Campus in Prince William County that otherwise might stay at hotels further away along Interstate 66. There’s also a fair amount of travelers from the Manassas Regional Airport — the state’s largest municipal airfield — that would stay at the hotel.

“This hotel brand is about fun,” said Haynes. “There will be a foosball table in the lobby.”

The hotel gym is another highlight of the property, he adds. It’s unclear if the new hotel will have a swimming pool.

The Tru in Manassas will be a first for the region. The first Tru in Virginia opened near Longwood University in Farmville.

The Landing at Cannon Branch, once known as the gateway property on Gateway Boulevard behind a DMV office, will be a mixed-use development with new homes, offices, and a new 21,000 square foot brewery operated by Heritage Brewery, in addition to the hotel. The first three residential buildings at the site are under construction now bringing 14 new townhouse and 12 condominiums.
