Stafford fires destroys home, kills animals

From Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle: 

On Saturday, December 17, 2016 at [6:04 a.m.], units from Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to 63 Dent Road for a reported Residential Structure Fire.

The caller stated that there was a chimney fire and all of the occupants were out of the house and accounted for. The first arriving unit from Station 2 and the Operations Deputy Chief arrived at [6:11 a.m.], reporting a two-story single family dwelling with smoke showing from the first floor.

Crews deployed an attack line and located the fire which had extended to the wall and into the attire space resulting in the partial loss of the roof. Due to the construction of the dwelling and the extent of the fire, it took crews approximately 30 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.

The Red Cross was requested, however, the family denied assistance. The cause was ruled accidental, and damages are estimated at $60,000. There were no civilians or public safety personnel injured during this incident

On Saturday, December 17, 2016, at [8:46 p.m.] Stafford County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to 106 Hudson Road for a Structure Fire.

The first arriving suppression unit from the Falmouth Station arrived approximately 8 minutes after dispatch, reporting a 20×15 barn fully involved. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of arrival. Several animals perished as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, and damage was estimated at $35,000.00.

There were no civilians or public safety personnel injured during this incident

Saturday morning’s ice storm had a impact on fire and rescue operations in the county: 

During the morning hours on Saturday, December 17, 2016, Stafford County experienced a significant weather event causing extremely treacherous roadways. The department responded to 61 incidents [between 5:30 a.m. and noon] including one residential structure fire. The off-going shift was held mandatorily to assist with the increased call volume.
