Stafford authorities investigate suicide on Route 3 bridge

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Fire and rescue crews were called to Blue and Gray Parkway in southern Stafford County, near Fredericksburg after a man shot and killed himself on a highway bridge. 

Crews arrived on the scene about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported the victim suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound the head, according to initial reports. 

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman MC Moncure this morning tells us it is investigating the incident: 

“The Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that occurred last evening on the Blue and Gray Parkway.  Both lanes of the bridge, eastbound and westbound, were closed to traffic as the scene was investigated.  There were no concerns to public health or safety and the bridge reopened at approximately 11:15 p.m.”
