$85,000 improvements underway on Lake Ridge trail

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — A popular trail in Lake Ridge will close for the remainder of the month while crews work to improve it.

From Prince William County Parks and Recreation spokesman Brent Heavner:

PL: What work / improvements are being completed?

Heavner: Two culverts are going to be installed, and the trail tread is being improved. We should complete the work in about 3 weeks.

PL: Why is work is needed?

Heavner: This project addresses two areas on the trail that were by storm water runoff.

PL: How popular is this trail?

Heavner: The trail is a popular amenity for Lake Ridge Park  and is a primary route for local residents to walk and jog. It’s one of our most popular trails.

PL: Where does the trail run (from where to where)?

Heavner: The trail runs from Springwood Drive through Lake Ridge Park to Hedges Run Drive.

PL: How long is the trail?

Heavner: Currently, the route of the trail runs roughly two miles. Though this particular project does not add new mileage to the trail, the long range plan calls for the extension of the trail all the way to the town of Occoquan for a total length of roughly 10 miles. As sections of trail are completed and connected, this trail corridor will grow in the coming years.

PL: How much is budgeted for work?

Heavner: The current culvert project carries an estimated cost of $85,000.
