A man who fell into a water tower near Haymarket was rescued this afternoon.
The man fell into an empty tank that is undergoing rehabilitation, said Prince William Service Authority spokesman Keenan Howell. Initial reports indicated the man fell about 50 feet into the tank.
The man broke his arm after the fall into the water tower near the intersection of Old Carolina and Carver roads, according to initial reports.
Crews mounted a high-angle rescue effort following the 911 call. This type of rescue is one of the most difficult maneuvers in the fire and rescue service, according to officials who spoke with Potomac Local.
The identity of the man who fell was not released. Police called for a Spanish interpreter to the rescue to bridge a language barrier between first responders and the victim.
More as we have it.
