Residents will have their chance to speak out on a proposed power line in Haymarket on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016.
A series two of public hearings about the 5-mile power line will start at 4:30 p.m., and again at 7 p.m. at Battlefield Senior High School will provide a chance for residents to speak out about the project. The plan calls for constructing 230-kilovolt power line from a substation near the intersection of Interstate 66 and Route 234, and connect it with a soon-to-be built substation near Haymarket.
Last summer, residents in Haymarket and Gainesville voiced opposition to the proposed line they said would serve a new data center that would be operated by Amazon. Many also argued that if a power line were to be built, a hybrid line — where part of the transmission line hangs above ground, and another portion of the line to run closest to houses would be buried to protect property values.
In November, Dominion Virginia Power — the eventual builder and operator of the transmission line — backed a plan to build the line overhead.
Battlefield High Schools is located at 15000 Graduation Drive in Haymarket.
Those who can’t make it to Wednesday’s public hearings may also choose to attend a hearing at the State Corproation Commission at 10 a.m. on May 10.
