WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Woodbridge Senior High School has reached senior status.
Many plan to return this weekend to celebrate the high school’s golden anniversary.
Three major events are planned to commemorate the event – a tour of the “old” Woodbridge High School building (now Woodbridge Middle School in Woodbridge) at 3 p.m. on Friday, and a 4 p.m. tailgate party in the parking of the current Woodbridge Senior High School on Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge.
From the event website:
3:30 P.M.–5:00 P.M. GATHERING AT THE OLD WSHS
This is mainly designed for the students that attended the Original WSHS and the staff that worked there but all are welcome. It is a chance to walk the hallways of your old school and see many of the students, teachers and staff that were there with you. There will be an informal 30 minute slideshow in the auditorium of pictures from just the 10 years that this school was Woodbridge Senior High School.
This slideshow will run 3 times and will also be available at the Open House at WSHS on Saturday. As with every other event this weekend, parking will be an issue. The lot is small so please carpool and you may have to park on the street. I could not get
shuttle buses for this event since I can’t get school buses until after 4 pm. No refreshments will be available here as we will be headed for the tailgate at WSHS after we finish with this event.
4 PM TAILGATE and Football game to follow at the “NEW” WSHS THIS IS A NO ALCOHOL EVENT!! Also No Smoking!
There will be very limited parking at WSHS for this event. Plan to park at the commuter parking lots at Tackett’s Mill and take one of our shuttle buses to WSHS. After the lots at WSHS are full, we will still be allowing vehicles to enter and drop off passengers and tailgate equipment but the driver will have to exit the lot and find a space and walk or go to the commuter lot and take the bus.
We are allowing 2 reserved parking places in the student parking lot for each class in order for them to bring in tables, chairs, tents etc. and also a place for others to store chairs during the football game.
Other events planned to commemorate the anniversary are posted online.
Woodbridge Senior High School opened in 1964 and moved to its Lake Ridge location 10 years later, as the Woodbridge area continued to grow in population. It is one of 13 high schools in Prince William County, including the county’s virtual high school as well as its Governor’s School @ Innovation Park near Manassas.
Police warn drivers who use Old Bridge Road to pack their patience Friday and Saturday as traffic in the area may be heavier than usual due to the planned anniversary events.
