Cemetery Stories, Bourbon Tasting On Tap for Civil War Weekend

MANASSAS, Va. -- On Aug. 22-24, the City of Manassas will host the Manassas Civil War Weekend at the Manassas Museum, Liberia Plantation and venues throughout Historic Downtown Manassas. Visitors will experience living history, Civil War encampments, historians, and attractions for all ages.

The annual Manassas Civil War Weekend grew out of the popular Sesquicentennial of the Civil War commemorations, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the area from across the country. This year’s commemoration will bring to life military, civilian, and African-American experiences from 150 years ago with a diverse offering of free programs, living history, and exhibits. Especially notable this year will be a lecture by nationally known Civil War historian Ed Bearss.

Bearss, The Chief Historian Emeritus of the National Park Service, is best known for his role in the Ken Burns’ PBS series, The Civil War, the most popular program broadcast by that network to date. He will deliver his keynote address at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22 on the museum lawn.
