WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 39-year-old library in Woodbridge will soon feel as if it’s brand new.
A newly constructed patio will open at the Potomac Library on Saturday. Residents have been invited to gather with officials from the Prince William County Public Library System and elected leaders to cut the ribbon for the new terrace Saturday at 10 a.m.
“This newly completed patio area behind the Potomac Library is open to the public during normal business hours and will provide tables and chairs, free WiFi service, a play yard for the kids, as well as library programs,” a press release stated.
The library now also boasts renovations like floor-to-ceiling windows, and a rearranging of reading spaces in the library to face the outside patio.
The non-profit Prince William Library Foundation donated $10,000 to effort, and Friends of the Potomac Library gave $5,000 for the purchase of new furniture.
To raise additional funds for the project, 8×8 brick pavers complete with name engraving will be sold for $250 each.
“Thanks to [Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank Principi], the patio is lined with the most popular books checked out at Potomac last year,” according to a press release.
In 2011, Principi donated $1,550 in discretionary funds so that all sitting members of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors could receive an engraved brick on the patio.
Potomac Library is open 10 a.m to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon until 5 p.m. mid September through the first Sunday in June.
