Child Nearly Abducted in Dumfries

DUMFRIES, Va. – Police are on the lookout for a man who tried to abduct a small child on Saturday.

More in a police press release:

Possible Attempted Abduction – On March 23rd at 6:45PM, police responded to the 3600 block of Masthead Tr in Dumfries (22026) for a possible attempted abduction. The victim, an 8 year old boy of Dumfries, reported to police that he was walking home when he was approached by an unknown man. The man allegedly grabbed the victim and carried him to the other side of the street where he then let the victim go. Following the encounter, the victim ran home where police were called. A police K-9 was used to search for the suspect. An extensive canvass was also completed by officers and detectives. No other persons witnessed the incident or reported seeing a suspicious person or vehicle in the area at the time.
