County Attorney, Victim Witness offices Move into Chichester Building

Building now one of 3 that make up government center complex

STAFFORD, Va. — The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office in Stafford County has a new home in a newly expanded courthouse complex.

The new 13,800 square foot Chichester Building is now open next to the county’s George L. Gordon Administrative Center. The $2.8 million building houses the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office lead by Eric Olsen, and the county’s Victim Witness Assistance Office.

Here’s more in a press release from Stafford officials:

The Stafford County offices of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Victim/Witness Assistance have moved to the Chichester Building, the newest addition to the government center campus. The address for the Chichester Building is 1245 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney and Victim/Witness Assistance offices join the office of the Virginia Department of Justice’s Fifteenth District Court Service Unit in the Chichester Building.

There are two entrances to the Chichester Building. The entrance to the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Victim/Witness Assistance is through the front door. Court Service may be entered by the door located on the west side of the building, facing the large parking lot to the rear of the Chichester Building.

For more information, please call the Commonwealth’s Attorney at 540-658-8780, or Victim/Witness Assistance at 540-658-4066. Stafford County spokeswoman Shannon Howell said the new building is named after R.H.L. Chichester who served as Stafford’s Commonwealth Attorney for 32 years, and for his son Daniel who served as the county’s top prosecutor for 40 years and stepped down last year. Stafford’s government center complex now includes three buildings, including the government center and courthouse.

An official opening celebration and building dedication will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. The site on which the new building sits once housed a rescue squad that was demolished to make way for the new cluster of government offices.

This new local government building won’t be the only new government complex to bear the name Chichester. A new 37 acre, $7 million park will also bear the name Chichester, according to the county’s capital improvement plan. The most up-to-date cost figure for the park is $8.5 million, stated Howell.

The park will sit next to the existing Stafford High School, will include five fields, picnic shelters, a playground, meeting space, and a maintenance storage shed, and it’s slated to open in 2014, according to the capital improvement plan document.
