
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Ten mascots have stepped in to pinch hit for Uncle Slam who will sit out the rest of the season.
The iconic mascot for the Potomac Nationals had his suit damaged in a June 29 fire that ripped through the management offices at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge. No one was injured, but the suit was ruined by smoke. The stadium reopened to fans on July 4.
Area organizations have volunteered their mascot to step in for Slam, and voting will be held at the July 18 game against the Lynchburg Hillcats to decide who will the team’s mascot for the remainder of the season.
The following are being considered as mascot replacements:
Patty the Patriot — Prince William Ice Center, Potomac Patriots
Talon — DC United
Grrrounder — Harrisburg Senators
Chicken — Theresa Cattlit
Sym Man — Symantics
Fluffy — AvantGarb Inc
Uncle Slam the Eagle — Scare Force One Roller Derby Team
Da-Bomb-shell — Cherry Blossom Bombshells Roller Derby Team
The Pickle — Majority Whips Roller Derby Team
Beelxebubba and Battlecat — Demon Cats Roller Derby Team
Uncle Slam will return next season with a new suit and new attitude, said Potomac Nationals General Manager Josh Olerud.
