North Stafford, Va. — A Yorktown man is behind bars after investigators said he tried to solicit sex in North Stafford.
A Stafford Sheriff’s Office Detective was portraying a 13-year-old girl on the internet when the suspect contacted the detective during the middle of February and made plans to meet at the Hampton Inn hotel on U.S. 1, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The suspect told the detective he wanted to have sex with the minor he thought he was speaking communicating with on the web, said Kennedy.
The suspect came to the hotel Wednesday night where he was watched by authorities. On Thursday morning, the suspect was arrested as he was leaving his hotel room, said Kennedy.
Timothy Ray Phillips, 30, is charged with two counts of attempted liberties with a minor, two counts of use of an electronic device to solicit a juvenile, said Kennedy. He was jailed with no bond.
