Stafford County, Va. — While the Potomac Communities saw virtually nothing in the way of snowfall today, the Virginia Department of Transportation said it will call in crews at 9 p.m. to monitor the roads in Stafford County and surrounding areas.
There remains a chance for snow between 7 and 9 p.m., but any precipitation in the area is expected to clear out, according to the National Weather Service.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) snow removal teams will work overnight this evening in the Fredericksburg area and along Interstate 95 to monitor road conditions and apply chemicals and abrasives as needed.
Crews are mobilizing at 9 p.m. in the Fredericksburg area, and will patrol interstate, primary and secondary roads.
The western end of the 14-county Fredericksburg District is forecast to receive trace amounts of snow. Heavier accumulation may fall in the western areas of Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.
Motorists driving this evening and Thursday morning should allow extra travel time and remain alert for slick or icy road conditions, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses, which can freeze first.
Additional driving tips include:
Clear the snow and ice from your vehicle’s roof, hood and trunk and especially from the windows, mirrors and lights.
Always wear your seat belt.
Keep a safe distance of at least five seconds behind other vehicles and trucks that are plowing or treating the road.
Don’t pass a snowplow or spreader unless it is absolutely necessary. Treat these as you would emergency response vehicles.
