Once again this year Virginia Railway Express’ Santa Train tickets proved to be a must have holidaly gift.
For the first time in recent memory, tickets for the trains sold out on the same day they went on sale.
Online tickets for $6 each went on sale at 9 a.m. Monday on VRE’s website and sold out in 12 minutes. At vendors at rail stations where tickets were $5 each, tickets had all sold out by 2 p.m.
“Usually vendor sales take a few days to sell out every train, but that is not the case this year,” said VRE spokesman Mark Roeber.
Santa Trains run along VRE’s Fredericksburg and Manassas lines, inviting children and their parents to come see Santa and Mrs. Claus all while promoting rail safety. The trains will run Saturday, Dec. 10, and the net proceeds from the sale of Santa Train tickets benefit Operation Lifesaver.
