Woodbridge, Va. — Local leaders will meet in Woodbridge on Monday night to discuss bringing Metro to eastern Prince William County.

Extending Metro’s Blue line to Potomac Mills has for at least the past two election cycles has been a campaign talking point for area democrats, as it was last week during a candidates forum in Lake Ridge.

Republicans who spoke at the debate say Metro to Woodbridge is a pipe dream only because it is expected to cost at least $3 billion over the next 10 years and there is no dedicated source of funding for the project. They also said High Occupancy Toll lanes on Interstate 95 and better bus transportation will alleviate traffic congestion.

As the idea is capturing the attention of those who focus on transportation in the Washington area, Greater Greater Washington today asks the question if a Metro extension to Woodbridge makes sense.
